|Carryn is an occupational therapist who is sensory integration certified. She has 8 years’ experience working in various paediatric environments, including preschools, primary and remedial school environments, as well as her own established private practice.
From her experience in treating children, Carryn found that the parents also need guidance and support. This lead her to being inspired to research this area in more detail. She is currently completing her Master’s degree at the University of Witwatersrand. Her study aims to look at the effectiveness of a stress management programme for mothers with sensory over-responsiveness. During her data collection for her research, she received a lot of positive feedback from the parents who participated in her stress management programme, particularly the group sessions, which just confirmed to Carryn how important this field is.
She has a passion for sensory integration and is motivated to help individuals gain greater knowledge of their own sensory systems in order to function more optimally within various environments in their daily life. She has a particular passion for forming support groups for parents who are feeling overwhelmed, stressed and “out of sync”.
